Complexity and Contradiction

The office was torn between rustic and modern, rough
and smooth, simple and complex.... The metaphors abound, including examining the relationship between partners or architect and contractor. This tension became the solution.

The design parti uses a clean metal mullion to create order in the Reception Area, continuing into the Conference Room. Contrasting the industrial rigor of the window system, fluid circulation is then ironically defined with the roughest material – opposing curving stone veneer walls. Further into the office, the most minimal crisp glass corner emerges from the stone, without the metal structure, defining the Meeting Room.

The design compares and contrasts technology and texture, modern and rustic, achieving neither, or both.
